Lynda
has been in contact with you all and has given instructions
how to get to your first base, Capital
House.
You
need to contact Lynda and tell her your arrival flight details,
she will arrange an airport shuttle to pick you up from
the airport and take you to Capital House.
We expect
you to start arriving at Capital House from Tuesday 28 February
(please tell Lynda if you have made arrangements to arrive
earlier)
The
tour will officially start at 2.00pm Wednesday 1
March 2006.

requests.
You
will be responsible to all costs associated with transport
to Capital House and any accommodation before 1 March 2006. |
From Wednesday 1 March 2006 Hikoi Wairua (White Light
Focus) will be responsible for all your accommodation,
transport and meals. You will be responsibility for all
costs associated with any additional excursions and purchasing
of souvenirs There will be Wine, and beer on sale for
a reasonable cost. There are a limited number of T Shirts
with an attractive Ta Moko pattern available for a cost
of $35. There will also be authentic Taonga made by well-known
artist available to you at a reasonable cost. Please make
contact with us if you have any queries.

continental breakfast will be served in the dining room you
must be ready to board the shuttle transport by 6.45am

We pack
our luggage into the luggage carrier and begin our journey
to Kaikoura. This
is a two and a half hour coastal drive.
You
will be travelling in three full air conditioned 10 seater
Mini buses. Please keep your luggage to a minimum as there
is little storage space.

supper will be served and then we will travel (half hours
drive) to our destination called Ariama and
our host Whaia Miriama |

will be served at Ariama and you will settle into your accommodation

3 – Day 7 |

Our Chef
Bernadette will oversee the preparation of
all meals, as part of Maori Tikanga
(protocol) we will all assist in the preparation of the Kai
(food) and the cleaning afterwards. |

We
will spend from the evening of Day 2 until
the morning of Day 8 in this enchanted
magic place.
Activities
will include:
1.
Tane Mahuta there will be medicine walks
the rituals and the preparation, and cooking of medicines
2. The creative use of our natural resources
such as:
a.
bone,
b. wood,
c. shell (Paua)
d. stone and
e. fibre from Harakeke (native flax);
produce your personal spiritual totems or kaitiaki (caretakers)
3.
Assistance in the understanding of symbols
in designs.All of these arts are sacred; your teacher is
a well-known and respected artist, master carver and sculpture
from the South Island Dave Hegglun.
He will
also be our medicine man and Whaia Wai
will be your medicine woman.
We will
also have access to teachers of weaving and much more from
the local area.
Whale
watching, swimming with dolphins and visiting the seal colonies
are all amazing activities in Kaikoura.
We
can arrange for bookings and transport to these activities
but they are not part of the Hikoi Wairua 2006 and you are
responsible for all costs associated with this. |

8 and 9 |
St
Arnaud Lake Rotoiti |

After
breakfast we will leave Kaikoura and travel to the Nelson
Lakes National Park |
| 4.00pm |
We
will arrive in the small village of St Arnaud you will all
check into cosy holiday cottages. You will be split into
groups of between 3 – 9 people and allocated into
these truly wonderful holiday cottages.
This
beautiful village setting will give you the opportunity
for some quiet time out from the big groups. There are nature
walks and swimming in the lakes.
For
those who wish to join them Whaia Wai and Dave will also
be conducting medicine walks.
You
may just choose to take some time out. The choice is yours
Please
note that you must provide your own sleeping bags and pillow
cases. |

will have the night off and we are all invited to the Tophouse
Hotel for a buffet dinner. |
Breakfast |

will arrange for all your breakfast foods to be taken to your
cottages where you can enjoy a quite breakfast in the privacy
of your own cottage |

will cater a special dinner for us at the local St Arnaud
community hall. |

10, 11 & 12 |

Moutere Nelson province |

After
breakfast we will leave St Arnaud for the Lower Moutere Nelson
Province |
| |
We
will be staying at the Whenua
iti Outdoor Pursuits Centre
We will
visit Whaia Wai and Pa Moe South Island tribal Marae Te
Awhina hopefully shown around by some of our whanau.
We will
also Visit Marehau and spend a day having a Waka (canoe)
experience. We will also learn off noted artist Maori crafts.
Activities can change according to the weather or availability
of teachers. |

13 and 14 |
Picton |

We
say goodbye to Whenua iti and continue our journey to Picton
where Waikawa Marae will host us. There will be a formal
welcome as required in our ceremonies.
Activities
for these two days will be posted, as we get closer to the
time. |

15 |
Depart
for Wellington |
| |
We
say goodbye in our formal way poroporoaki
farewell time for a Waka journey or activities will be posted,
as we get closer to that time.
We return
to Wellington in the afternoon and go to capital house
You
may wish to experience our city entertainment. Should you
wish to eat out please see Lida and she will give you $20
to eat out. |

The
day will be a free day for you to go where ever or shopping
or just resting or preparing for our goodbye Whanau and
Friends Dinner in the evening.
The
dinner will be a time when you can say your goodbyes to
your team of assistants, Pa Moe and Whaia Wai and you can
join together and create a song music poem or anything this
is goodbye time. |
